YouTube apps to allow 'short period' video downloads for offline viewing
Youtube mobile app is soon going to allow people download videos for offline viewing. They are going to launch it in November. This was announced on the creators blog for channel owners. The reason why they are doing this is to increase the number of viewers. They want more viewers for the channels out their, people would be able to use this even when they are not connected to the internet. This new feature would allow people to download the videos for a short period of time, so they could watch it without being interrupted because of the poor internet connection. Youtube are later in the year going to provide blogs to how it would all work. The reason why youtube have done this is because they know that 1bn video views daily are done through mobile devices. This tells us that 1bn people everyday watch videos on youtube through there phone.
Statistical information:
* 1bn video views daily from mobile devices
* 6bn hours videos watch monthly overall
* Indicates 1.5bn of those are on mobile device
MY View
There would be loads of advantages and disadvantages of this short period video downloading.
* Youtube have took a really smart move as they know that there are 1bn viedo views daily through mobile device.
* I think what they have thought of coming up with would be successful as it would increase viewers as people would be able to watch the videos offline.
* On the other hand some people might not have enough storage on their phone to download the videos so that they can watch them.
* Overall you would need to have internet in the first place to download the video.
* I think this would not be as successful as they are thinking it would be because people would need 3g internet to download the video in the first place, so this would still eventually waste their internet allowance.
