The 5 officers surrounded him in an residential area and hit him as much as they could. The officers struck him 52-56 times with the rod, one officer kicked him 6 times and the other hit him 1 time. He is know known as a citizen journalist because he videotaped the incident without anyone knowing. Four of the officers were charged in the Los Angeles court.
The reason why it was significant is because it changed peoples views on the police force. The people started questioning themselves that is the police really protecting them or are they not? In some ways it creates that terrifying thought that the police is not protecting them. The relation to the citizen journalists is that the beating was shot by an ordinary man looking out of his window.
